Our Story
Valerie Confections is an artisanal chocolate and confection company, specializing in elegant sweets made with sophisticated ingredients.
Founder Valerie Gordon was born and raised in San Francisco, California. Her love of sweet creations began during childhood and she began baking at age nine. This love continued into adulthood and she started a tradition of giving elaborate handmade confections to friends and family. Eventually she decided to take these creations to a wider audience. Along with partner Stan Weightman, Jr., Valerie launched the Los Angeles based company in 2004 concentrating on six flavors of toffee. These delicately crunchy toffees are flavored with high quality ingredients, including dried mint, organic hazelnuts, and thin stalks of crystallized ginger. Each piece is hand-dipped in Valrhona bittersweet or darkened milk chocolate.
The candies became Valerie Confections’ instant signature. Valerie continued to develop and expand the collection adding peanut candy, nougat, truffles and caramels. The first Valerie Confections shop opened in Los Angeles in 2007 and shortly after a line of baked goods was launched. In 2009 the ‘Valerie at the Market’ line was introduced focusing on local ingredients and more casual fare, including jams, shortbreads and candied citrus. New and limited edition chocolates and confections will be released each season and the Valerie Confections line will continue to expand.
Valerie Confections creates everything by hand, in small batches, just as they did at the company’s inception. This attention to detail has resulted in many accolades for the company, including being named one of “America’s Top Ten Chocolate Companies” by Saveur magazine.
